Starting childcare is a big milestone for both your family and your child. It’s normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves on this first day. At Edu Kids Early Learning Centre in Brookfield, we warmly welcome you into our learning community. Every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they feel valued and ready to learn.
Our friendly educators focus on building comfort and familiarity. Your little one will meet caring teachers and explore our bright play areas, helping them feel “right at home” from the start. With strong routines and support in place, your child is in good hands on day one and beyond
How to Prepare Your Child for Their First Day at Childcare
Before day one arrives, a little preparation can make the transition smoother. Consider these tips:
-
Visit and Explore: Book a tour or orientation session at the centre. Walking through classrooms and meeting teachers beforehand eases anxiety. Familiarity with the environment makes the first drop-off less intimidating.
-
Talk About It: Frame the big day as an exciting adventure. Explain what to expect (“play with toys, make friends, story time!”). Keep it upbeat and brief.
-
Practice Routines: About a week before start, adjust bedtime and morning schedules to match daycare routines. Practice packing the bag together – turn it into a fun game.
-
Pack and Label Essentials: Include spare clothes, nappies/pull-ups, bottles, comfort toys, etc., and label everything with your child’s name.
-
Checklist and Comfort: Run through a checklist the night before. Include familiar comforts like a cuddly toy to soothe your child in a new environment.
By doing these steps, both you and your child will feel more confident. Remember, it’s a new routine for everyone at home too.
What to Expect on the First Day
- Warm Welcome: Our educators greet you and guide you through check-in. Share any notes about your child’s needs.
- Saying Goodbye: Keep farewells brief, upbeat, and confident. A hug, a kiss, and “Have fun today, I’ll see you soon!” reassures your child. Avoid sneaking away – consistency builds trust.
- A Day of Discovery: Children dive into play-based activities like arts, stories, sensory play, and outdoor time. By afternoon, many are making friends or enjoying rest time.
- Updates and Pick-Up: Educators provide quick updates via the Storypark platform. At pick-up, you’ll hear about games, songs, or friendships formed.
Settling In: Adjusting to Childcare
-
Babies may cry upon separation, but not all day. Educators comfort them using cuddles and play.
-
Most children settle within 1–3 weeks, depending on personality. Consistency, positive goodbyes, and trusting relationships matter most.
